India produces more than 3.4 million tonnes of plastic every year. The mismanagement of the plastic waste will lead to rise in many concerns and aggravations for the environment and humans.
Project ‘Prithvi’ is UNDP’s collaboration with HCCB that focuses on strengthening the waste management ecosystem. It promotes the setting up of swachhta Kendra – material recovery facilities. It is successfully running its program in 28 cities across India. It focuses on waste management, spreading awareness, improving the lives of the waste collectors, and ensures proper utilization of plastic waste.
